Fresh yogurt raita to enjoy with biryani and as a condiment for other dishes.

Makes 10-12 servings


  • 1 cup whole plain or Greek yogurt
  • 2 Tbs. water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion


  1. In a medium bowl, whisk yogurt, water, and salt, adding more or less water depending on desired consistency.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.
  3. Serve with biryani or as a condiment for other dishes.


  • If using Greek yogurt, increase water by 1 Tbs.
  • For restaurant style raita, blend everything except the onions and stir them in afterwards along with 1/4 cup chopped cucumber.
